Hiking with Essential Oils
I love to hike, but in recent years, I’ve gotten more concerned about the weight of my backpack more than anything else. After years of chiropractic treatment for scoliosis and sciatica, the last thing I want is to injure myself slinging a heavy backpack over my shoulders when I could be enjoying the great outdoors.

That’s why I love that so many of our Young Living products serve dual purposes on the trail. Here are my favorites:

Deep Relief & CBD Roll-ons + Copaiba Essential Oil

Deep Relief feels so good on my feet, neck and shoulders. Made with a blend of cooling oils like Peppermint, Wintergreen, and Dorado Azul, it helps relieve my burning muscles while energizing my mind.

I learned the hard way to stop often while on the trail to change socks and let my feet breathe. When I apply Deep Relief to my feet during these rest breaks, I can hike even farther without pain.  As a back-up, I bring a CBD roller for extra support on the trip back.

And have I told you how much I love roller bottles? I love that I can apply both of these products without ever having to touch my stinky feet!

I also use Copaiba during and after every hike. Ten drops of Copaiba Vitality in a vegetable capsule or glass of water at the end of a hard day on the trails really helps ease my tired muscles for a good night’s sleep.

NingXia Red & NingXia Nitro

Everyday is a good day for NingXia RedBut on hiking days I also like to start with a NingXia Nitro. Nitro gives a huge wake-up boost without the mid-morning slump that I get from drinking caffeine. That’s important when I’m hitting the trails at the break of dawn.

This multivitamin wholefruit beverage supplement has replaced all the other multivitamins in our household. It’s packed with antioxidants from the NingXia Wolfberry. That one superfruit has more body system support than I can even begin to list in one post.

When I’m home, I purchase NingXia Red in a 750 mL bottle and measure out a 2 oz serving every day. But, when I’m on the trail I toss a 2 oz pouch in my pack for a nutrient-dense afternoon pick-me-up.

Young Living Mineral Sunscreen Lotion

Young Living’s Sunscreen makes me happy for so many reasons. First of all, it comes in SPF 50 non-nano zinc oxide. That means it actually works on my pale Irish skin! Second, it’s fragrance-free and water-resistant. Which means even a sweaty hiker can stay protected from the sun.

Young Living Insect Repellent

My least favorite thing about summer is bugs, and I can’t stand the smell of Insect Repellent with DEET. Plus, I worry about the toxic chemicals my skin absorbs when I wear it.

Young Living’s Insect Repellent smells so good I could use it as a perfume! And judging by all the other hikers swatting at bugs on the trail, while I wasn’t bothered at all, this natural, essential oil-based product works really well too!

I apply my Insect Repellent 20 minutes before going out so it has time to absorb into my skin. For extra cost-savings, I pour some into a roller bottle and apply it in stripes on any exposed skin.  That helps me spread it more easily and makes it portable and lightweight for hiking.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

What can tea tree do?   A LOT!

This little bottle does so much for muscles, skin, energy, and respiratory support.  I never leave home without it.  It’s my just-in-case-anything-happens-I-have-my-tea-tree-to-the-rescue go to!

After incorporating these products into my hiking pack, I’ve found that I can hike longer with a shorter recovery time the next day AND less overall pack weight.

I may not be the fastest hiker in the woods, but I’m definitely the best-smelling one!
